On Monday, Oct 22, I talked in front of my students about the importance of being honest. I encouraged them to be honest even if others are not; even if others will not; and even if others can not. Why did I give this talks to them?
It is kind of surprising to find out that nowadays, many kids are not aware of the importance of being honest. The advancement of internet technology seems to contribute to the condition. Children are now spending more time alone rather than with friends or even parents. The enjoyment of having the computer and internet access blinds their conscious and social interaction. Sure they still have a social interaction but it is done via the net, i.e. online interaction. Facebook and Twitter are among those favorite sites providing services for online social networking.
This kind of so called online interaction may to some extent degrade their conscious towards the real world. While they tend to share more and more stuff online, including private matters; they also tend to have less interaction with people surrounding. Thus, they might not see the necessary of sharing things happening in the real world, especially those that do not interest them.
